Home > WOT > Tesla Model S Gets the Tuner Treatment Well, it really only was a matter of time before tuners got their mitts on the Tesla Model S. With news that Saleen Automotive was developing a tuned Model S, California upstart Unplugged Performance has just released what it calls a "tastefully aggressive redesign" of the Tesla Model S, beating companies like Saleen to the punch. A spin-off of tuner Bulletproof Automotive, Unplugged Performance doesn't actually offer any performance upgrades on its custom Tesla Model S. The Unplugged Performance Tesla Model S gets nothing but a handful of visual updates, including a custom lower-front fascia and spoiler, custom side skirts, a rear diffuser, and a rear spoiler. We're doubtful the enhancements actually improve the Model S' blistering performance, but the changes are at least tasteful. All of Unplugged's new parts are built from carbon fiber, and reportedly doesn't ruin the electric car's ground clearance. Though Unplugged doesn't upgrade the Tesla Model S' performance capabilities, the tuner says it's hard at work developing modifications that will increase the electric motor's power output and improve the Model S' suspension. Unplugged is also developing an "exotic luxury" interior for the Model S. As we pointed out before, upgrading a Tesla Model S' performance capabilities won't be easy. The main bottleneck for performance is the Tesla's battery, as it gets too hot and retards power during hot laps. Cracking Tesla's software system will also be a problem for Unplugged, as Tesla currently keeps the keys for its proprietary software under lock-and-key. Nevertheless, we're pretty eagerly anticipating the first true tuner Tesla Model S. It's only a matter of time. Source: Unplugged Performance
