Hemmings Find of the Day – 1940 Plymouth Deluxe woodie

1940Plymouth_01_1000

From the photos, description, and video accompanying this 1940 Plymouth Deluxe woodie station wagon for sale on Hemmings.com, it appears nothing – not the wood, nor the rest of the body, nor anything down to the gauges – was left untouched in its recent restoration. And the best part is that it wasn’t restored just to win trophies – it was done with an eye to keeping it driveable and on the road as well. From the seller’s description:

This woodie was completely restored less than two years ago after duty as a surfer wagon in San Diego. Wood professionally done by Larry Laing Woodworking. All sheetmetal brought back to bare metal, primed, painted and then a great clearcoat. Complete top to bottom stock engine and drivetrain rebuild. All new wiring from All American including turn signal add-on for safety. Gauges all rebuilt and operational. Includes hard to find, correct 1940 pushbutton radio. Great chrome and stainless inside and out. New glass all the way around with correct date codes by the magicians at PS Auto Glass. Has the all important 3rd row seat which is another woodie-only component getting impossible to find. There are only 13 1940 Plymouth woodies still listed in The National Woodie Club roster. This one is the only one with the Aviator Blue body that we know of. The objective with this woodie was to restore it to be something that could really be enjoyed – a beautiful car to impress at the shows that’s also a great, dependable weekend “take a drive” survivor.
