2014 BMW M235i Put to the Test on Ignition

Home  >  WOT  >  2014 BMW M235i Put to the Test on Ignition Although it’s covered in “M” badges, the 2014 BMW M235i isn’t an M car. Not only is the M235i lacking any M tuning, but it also has an open differential. On this episode of Ignition, Carlos Lago and Randy Pobst put the 2014 M235i through its paces at the test track, on the streets, and at Streets of Willow to find out if the compact rear-drive coupe is a bargain M car. With a 320-hp 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six -- 20 hp more than the 335i and 435i -- the M235i reaches 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and finishes the quarter-mile in 13.0 seconds at 106.6 mph. Braking from 60 mph takes just 103 feet. Despite the open differential, the 2014 M235i laps the figure-eight in 24.9 seconds at 0.78 g average and pulls 0.97 g average around the skidpad. Those times aren’t far off the 2011 BMW 1M. While impressive at the track and on the streets, Lago wonders whether the non-M car is worthy of all of its M badges. To find out, Lago hands the M235i over to Pobst for some seat time around Streets of Willow. Check out the video below to hear what Pobst has to say about the 2014 BMW M235i.
