The cars competing in the rally aren’t built for all-out speed, of course, but they do need to be safe and they do need to be able to keep up on modern roads, which is why the owner of the 1932 Nash Series 1060 that Arch Brown and Bud Juneau profiled for SIA #179, September 2000, has been fitted with a later, larger Nash six-cylinder engine and a few other under-the-skin modifications that keep with both the spirit of the car and of the race, and Brown finds that they make a world of difference in his driving impressions of the Nash.
