In our latest compact sedan comparison, we tested seven new or updated mid-level trim models including the Dodge Dart GT, Honda Civic EX, Hyundai Elantra Limited, Kia Forte EX, Mazda3 i Touring, Toyota Corolla LE Eco Plus, and Volkswagen Jetta SE. And we want to know which compact sedan you would choose. Each car was scrutinized and weighed against various criteria such as ride and handling, performance, efficiency, cockpit/cabin, safety, value, and cost of ownership. With high scores in more categories than any other contender, the Mazda3 was ranked first place overall. The Kia Forte and Honda Civic round out the podium in second and third place, respectively. Despite being the segment’s best-seller, the Toyota Corolla was ranked fourth ahead of the Hyundai Elantra, Volkswagen Jetta, and Dodge Dart. While the Mazda3 ranked high in ride and handling, performance, efficiency, and safety, it wasn’t class-leading in rear seat space. The fourth-place Corolla had a roomier back seat and scored higher in predicted cost of ownership.
