We Hear: Next Ford Focus RS Delayed

Home  >  WOT  >  We Hear: Next Ford Focus RS Delayed Those hoping to trade their Ford Focus STs in for a new Ford Focus RS next year are going to have to wait a little bit longer. Despite initial reports that the next-gen Ford Focus RS would make its European debut in 2015, rumor has it that the next Focus RS is "some ways off" as Ford focuses (no pun intended) its attention on the global launch of the 2015 Mustang, and the Euro launch of the Mondeo. According to a report from Autocar, the Ford Focus RS is still a ways away. Stephen Odell, the chief of Ford Europe, told the outlet that the Focus RS is "some ways off," and that as of right now "there's nothing to talk about...for now there is nothing to say." The reason why there may be nothing to say is because Ford of Europe has its hands full with two big vehicle launches in the next two years. The new Ford Mondeo, which has been on sale in the U.S. since 2012 as the Fusion, finally launches late this year. Soon after that, the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang launches. With the Mustang as Ford's halo car in Europe for the first time, Ford of Europe seemingly wanted to make sure that the next Focus RS doesn't step on the Mustang's hooves. That's especially true considering the new Mustang is expected to share its EcoBoost 2.3-liter turbocharged I-4 with the new Focus RS. Ford currently estimates the turbocharged Mustang's power output at more than 305 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque, but has yet to release official numbers. The new 2.3-liter EcoBoost is expected to make around 330 hp in the Focus RS. In the meantime, Focus fans needn't fret. The updated 2015 Ford Focus hits the market later this year, and with it may very well be a diesel-powered version of the Ford Focus ST. Source: Autocar
