The 2015 Audi A3 sedan is also the manufacturer's first model to earn a good rating in the small overlap front crash test. Although the Top Safety Pick+ rating was introduced in 2012, the requirements became stricter in 2014. Vehicles meeting the previous requirements now only earn a Top Safety Pick award. Vehicles earning a Top Safety Pick+ must perform well in the IIHS’ small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint tests. In addition, the Top Safety Pick+ rating is only given to cars with active safety tech like collision warning and mitigation systems (automatic braking). Standard safety features on the 2015 Audi A3 include front, knee, seat-mounted, rear-passenger thorax, and side curtain airbags. Front passenger detection is also included in the airbag system. In the event of an accident and airbag deployment, automatic door unlocking unlocks the doors to assist with exiting the vehicle. Other standard features include ABS brakes with Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution (EBD) and brake assist, electronic stability control (ESC) with secondary collision brake assist and traction control (ASR), and tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
