Last October, the Sports Car Club of America announced that Lisa Noble would assume the role of interim president and CEO, stepping in to fill a vacancy created by Jeff Dahnert’s sudden (and, perhaps, surprise) departure. On Monday, the SCCA made it official, appointing Noble to the position on a more permanent basis.
A long-term SCCA member, Noble’s background includes racing experience in the Formula Vee series, where she received the Kimberly Cup for the most improved SCCA Club Racing driver in 1999. In 2008, Noble joined the organization’s board of directors, and was appointed chairman of the board in 2013. Her career background is best described as entrepreneurial, with experience in retail jewelry, commercial real estate, and motorsport ventures.
Though Noble has not been at the helm of the SCCA long, the organization has seen numerous changes in the past year, including the launch of the SCCA U.S. Majors Tour (billed as the “top tier” of championship racing in America) and the creation of the North American MotorSports Expo (MSX). Perhaps more significantly, Noble has seen membership grow at a rate not experienced in the past decade, and the organization needs new members to prosper.
In her role, Noble promises to provide the mix of programs necessary to engage the SCCA member base; be more welcoming to enthusiasts looking to break into racing; and continue the support for members that the SCCA has long prided itself on. With competing organizations like the National Auto Sport Association and the growing popularity of low-cost series like the 24 Hours of LeMons and ChumpCar, the SCCA faces more obstacles than ever before.
Still, the SCCA believes that Noble is the ideal candidate to tackle the challenges of the role. In the words of SCCA board of directors chairman John Walsh, “She has the right mix of vision, leadership, understanding and passion to drive our organization forward.”
