Before Dodge applied it to its well-known compact car (and today’s front-wheel-drive entry-level car), the Dart name played a part in keeping Dodge competitive as well as defining Dodge in the market during the highly transitional period for Chrysler’s lineup in the late 1950s and early 1960s. What resulted were some of Exner’s most fantastical cars, with reverse fins and clashing front/rear design elements. But how do they drive? For SIA #180, November 2000, Arch Brown took the seat of a 1961 Dodge Dart Phoenix and reported his driving impressions.
